Collette Williams
Collette works as a principal family and systemic psychotherapist in Inpatient CAMHS in Sheffield, where both families and the team are a source of continued appreciation and humility. She's worked in CAMHS since qualifying as a family therapist in 2009. NVR has brought new possibilities and energy to ways of being both at home with her family and at work. And a whole new branch of connections to wonderful people.
Rachel and Collette first met and worked in their first permanent roles as newly qualified psychological professionals in 2010, working together again over the last 6 years with their shared love of NVR keeping them going through what can be a tricky environment to navigate.
We look forward to sharing our work and reflections with you, and welcome your connections and thoughts.
Conference Workshop
Finding an NVR Anchor Map and Compass in inpatient CAMHs (with Dr Rachel Horn)
We found ourselves in the choppy waters of inpatient camhs, lost at sea between the old world of therapeutic communities and the new worlds of current camhs where risk and complexity was met with impasse. We went on NVR training and then a series of fortunate events and a heap of persistence granted us funding for whole team training. Two years on and over one hundred staff have been trained on 1 day training, the training now enshrined as mandatory, with many staff completing 4 day training. The staff morale has rocketed, and restrictive practice decreased. We want to share the story of our journey briefly, from it's history told by us to the current and future ways systemic practice through NVR has been threaded through daily practices where newer-to- systemicideas colleagues have fedback to share it's impact on their work and together we will share our vision for the future. We reflect on what this means in terms of presence, erasure and mattering and the impact it's had on us both personally and professionally. In this workshop we will share some of our clinical experiences of embedding NVR on our inpatient camhs wards, our work with families and the team and weave a little bit of the hope we feel through the stories we will share.
