I am a systemic (family) psychotherapist with 30 years experience working both in adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry (CAMHS). My areas of specialism are eating disorders, prevention and management of self-harm and perinatal mental health. I qualified as an accredited Level 3 Non-Violent Resistance Practitioner in January 2025. I use NVR in working with parents of adolescents with eating disorders, and particularly those parents whose child has anorexia or bulimia, to help parents manage their reactions to the eating disorder bully in their lives, reduce accommodating behaviours, and manage conflicts through de-escalation and thus promote recovery. I also use NVR when working with parents of children with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) who may present with challenging or destructive behaviours and/or who present as anxious or socially withdrawn.
