Elaine Nicholls
NVR Accredited Practitioner
Elaine Nicholls NVR
Whitley Bay, Northumberland
I'm a parent through adoption, a former mental health nurse, and I've worked with parents/carers for over 25 years - in health, in the voluntary sector, and within local authority children's services. I currently work in a local authority kinship support service.
My NVR journey began in 2016 - as a parent and early intervention practitioner - and it's gradually become a way of life. Drawing on both lived and professional experience, my areas of practice include: adoption, fostering, kinship care, developmental trauma, and neurodivergence including foetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD).
My real passion is strengthening parents/carers who feel as though they just can't see a way through - using NVR to build capacity for consistently safe and connected 'good enough' care in the midst of complexity. Many of the families I support are headed by individuals who also have their own trauma
history and/or neurodivergent profile.
I'm also trained to DDP level two and this strongly contributes to my NVR practice, and I've almost completed a masters in trauma-informed practice (Jan 2026) which again informs my work.
I deliver NVR parent groups, standard one to one NVR, and bespoke NVR interventions.
Face to face can be arranged if local to Whitley Bay. Otherwise I can offer virtual via Teams/Zoom, or telephone appointment.
